PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bentonite-based absorbing/adsorbing agent which is excellent in water absorption, solidification, deodorization, and others and useful as toilet sand for pets. ;SOLUTION: The bentonite-based absorbing/adsorbing agent comprises molded granules chiefly containing bentonite in which a metal component mole ratio (AS) between Na, K, Mg, Ca, and Fe metal components in the bentonite and a silica(Si) component, which is defined by formula AS=Ax/Six, is at least 0.10. The granules have a pore volume measured by a mercury vapor method of at least 0.15 ml/g, a BET specific surface area of at least 70 m2/g, an absorption capacity measured at room temperature with the use of a physiological salt solution of at lest 20 ml/g, and an absorption velocity of 30 sec/ml/g or below.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2000,JPO
