PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a powdery deodorant composition exhibiting high safety and having excellent deodorant effects without adversely affecting a flavor, an aroma or a texture of chewing gum when formulated in the chewing gum by using a plant tissue body of the family Labiatae as a raw material. PSOLUTION: The powdery deodorant composition is obtained as follows. At least one species of the plant tissue body of the family Labiatae is freed of essential oil components causing an unpleasant odor in the plant tissue body, deodorized and sterilized by a steam treatment. A polyphenol component flowing out into a steam treatment vessel residue is readded to at least the one species of the plant tissue body of the family Labiatae to provide a mixture. The resultant mixture is dried, pulverized and sieved. As a result, the powdery deodorant composition having at least 3.5 mass% of polyphenol content and a particle size wholly passing through any sieve opening ranging from 100 mesh (150 μm) to 10 mesh (11.7 mm) is prepared by seasoning, flavoring and coloring the plant tissue body of the family Labiatae prior to the drying treatment after the deodorizing and sterilizing treatments by the steam treatment of the plant tissue body of the family Labiatae.
