A peptide having β-ionone ring-2-hydroxylase activity obtained from Brevundimonas strain SD-212, and a gene encoding the same are provided. It enables mass production of carotenoids in which a hydroxyl group is introduced into the carbon at position. Also provided are a novel gene encoding an enzyme that introduces a hydroxyl group into the 3rd (3'-position) carbon of a carotenoid having a β-ionone ring and a novel gene encoding geranylgeranyl pyrophosphate synthase.
