A portable electronic device (10) includes a portable housing (12) and an electrical circuit (31) positioned in the housing. A connector assembly (40) is positioned in a wall (14) of the housing. The connector assembly includes an internal connector (42) extending into the housing, and an auxiliary connector (54) rigidly coupled to the internal connector and accessible from outside the housing. The auxiliary connector is electrically connected to the internal connector. A flexible member (32) electrically connects the internal connector to the electrical circuit. The flexible member is configured to transmit less than about 10% of an external impact force on the connector assembly to the electrical circuit.
