The feeder wheel is used in a timber harvesting unit and has a nave and a cover which encompasses the nave on its outer peripheral surface. On the same surface are engagement components which grip a tree trunk when the feeder wheel rotates. The engagement components are formed by drive blades distributed around the cover peripheral surface and are extended generally parallel with the rotation axis.
