A method and an apparatus for fast symmetry and SIMD(Single Instruction Multiple Data) based forward projection-back projection for reconstructing a 3D PET(Position Emission Tomograph) image are provided to simplify an interpolation process by adopting a rotation based projection or an alignment frame scheme. Plural reaction lines are detected from a predetermined object. The reaction lines are converted to first sinogram data. During a back-projection process, the first sinogram data is projected into plural projection angles, so that image data of the object is generated. During a projection process, the generated image data is projected to plural projection angles, so that second sinogram data is obtained. During the back-projection process, the first sinogram data is filled in pixels of an image plane corresponding to the plural projection angles. The coordinate axes of the image plane are rotated by a predetermined angle, so that the image data is obtained. During the projection process, the image data is rotated in an opposite direction by the corresponding projection angle. The forward projection and back-projection processes use a symmetrical property of a coordinate space.
