An RAP7(rice after pollination clone 7) is provided which shows no homology to genes, of which function is already known and registered in a gene database of rice, and dwarfs the height of the rice, thereby being effectively utilized for breeding mid-short type for improving the resistance to lodging of the rice. A novel functional gene RAP7 useful for improving resistance to lodging is described in SEQ ID : NO. 1, wherein the functional gene RAP7 is a gene having the function of controlling the length of the rice height and the controlling of the height of a transformed plant is 1/4 that of a normal breeding.
