The device has two functional units e.g. material inlet (4) and crushing unit (5), assembled together in a connection layer, where a material transition from one functional unit to the other functional unit takes place in the course of the processing of a feed-stock e.g. fibre material. Each functional unit exhibits an own housing, where facing sides of the housings form an overlapping region that lies in the connection layer. The overlapping region extends over a direct region of the material transition, where the functional units lie together under contact in the overlapping region.
