The guide has a taper comprising side walls with a partial section (21), where the partial section is provided with an eclipse shape cross sectional area (D1) bent towards outside of a wave guide. The side walls has another partial section (22) attached to the partial section (21) and provided with an eclipse shape cross sectional area (D2) bent towards inside of the wave guide. The taper has a third partial section (23) attached to the partial section (22), where the third partial section has linear cross section characteristics. An independent claim is also included for an optical wavelength multiplexer/demultiplexer comprising an optical wave guide and a coupling region.
