The method involves attaching communication terminals (EP-A, EP-C) to respective communication nodes (N1, N3), and exchanging useful data directly between the terminals by a useful data connection (DMC6) with a communication connection. Signaling information is exchanged between the nodes via signaling connections (SA, S12, S23, SC), which are guided as indirect signaling connection over a third communication node (N2). A direct signaling connection is established between the nodes, and the useful connection is attached to the direct connection. The indirect connection is removed.
