A simplified design of a torsion bar for a vehicle suspension has the ends of a tubular torsion bar (12) fitted into mounting holes at the ends of support arms (18) and crimped and/or riveted into place. No welding or other heat treatment is required. The mounting holes in the support arm are polygonal to provide voids into which the material of the torsion bar is pressed by the crimp process.
