The method involves measuring differences of axial distances of two spindles (1,2) parallel to each other, which are arranged at a processing machine. A working spindle calibrates a position and subsequently other working spindle calibrates another position by the variation of the distances between both working spindles. The distance between the former and the latter working positions is measured, which compares a measured value with a reference value and the distance is adjusted between both the working spindles on the reference value. An independent claim is also included for a processing machine for metal cutting.
