A control unit (SRU) individually designates control parameters (P1,P2,P3) to the operating modes (M0,M1,M2) of a backing warning module (RFW), and determines any of the operating modes and its associated parameter based on the selection signal (as) input from a switch (SM). The control unit also modulates the selection signal according to the determined control parameter, and stops the operating mode of the module dependent on the modulation of the output signal (ss) to the module. The module generates an acoustic warning signal with three volume levels.
