The system (5) has a steering wheel (6) mechanically connected with a steering gear (9) by a steering shaft (7), and a final controlling equipment (15) i.e. electromechanical servo unit, which raises control moment on the system in order to vary steering wheel moment that lies on the wheel. A control unit (25) is provided for determining a control value (IM) that describes the control moment in a parameter-dependant manner. Wear characteristic (V) that describes wear of the system is provided in the control unit for consideration during determination of the control moment.
