The optical sensor has a housing (5) for accommodating sensor components, and a seal (9a) for sealing segments of the housing. A segment of the seal and/or a portion between the segments of the housing forms a light unit of a display unit. Different sensor conditions are signalable through different light conditions of the display unit. Warning, faulty messages and different operating mode are signalable with the display unit. The seal consists of luminescent material.
