The method involves separating water in a swimming pool (10) into two volumes, such as small volumes (14) and large volumes (16), by inserting a waterproof separating layer (12) before adding a cleaning agent. The small volumes at a side of the separating layer are arranged at walls (18) of the pool, and the large volumes at another side of the separating layer are arranged at a middle (20) of the pool. The addition of the cleaning agent takes place only in the small volumes, and a foil is used as the separating layer.
