The gas sensor has a sensor element (12), which bears a contact surface (22) on an end section (121) with an electric contact element (24) making an electric connection to the contact surface. Expanding units are integrated into a contact device (23) for reducing or cancelling the contact pressure to pressure surfaces by spring element expansion. The expansion effect is cancelled without tools after inserting the end section of the sensor element between a contact holder (26).
