Use of tertiary and quaternary aminonaphthalimide compounds (I) and their salts, solvates or prodrugs in medicament for the treatment of a pathogen infection, is claimed. X : 1-10C alkyl (optionally substituted by one or more halo, N(R) 2, CON(R) 2, COOR, NO 2, OR or CN) or cyclic amide group of formula (II); P 1phthalimide or a naphthalimide ring system; L : 2-10C alkylene, where the CH 2group is optionally replaced by O or NH; n, na : 0-3; R 3, R3a : N(R) 2, NO 2, CN, OR, halo, 1-4C alkyl, 1-4C perfluoroalkyl, COOR, SR, 1-C perfluoroalkoxy or 1-4C thioperfluoroalkyl; A, Aa : 2-4C alkylene (optionally substituted with 1 or 2 1-4C alkyl); R 1, R1a : 1-4C alkyl, 1-4C alkylene-OR, 1-4C alkylene-N(R) 2, 1-4C alkylene-piperidinyl, 1-4C alkylene-piperazinyl, 1-4C alkylene-COOR or 1-4C alkylene-CON(R) 2; R 2, R2a : 1-4C alkyl, 1-4C alkylene-OR, 1-4C alkylene-N(R) 2, 1-4C alkylene-piperidinyl,1-4C alkylene-piperazinyl, 1-4C alkylene-COOR or 1-4C alkylene-CON(R) 2, when R 2or R2a is present, N bound to R 2, R2a carries positive charge; and R : H or 1-4C alkyl.
