The method involves transferring the speed delay of a guiding vehicle at an adjacent ego vehicle (2). A collision characteristic value is calculated for the momentary danger of a collision of a guiding vehicle with the ego vehicle in dependence of the transferring speed delay. The longitudinal guiding of the ego vehicle is supported in dependence of calculating collision characteristic value. An independent claim is also included for a longitudinal guidance assistant for supporting the longitudinal guiding of an ego vehicle, and for the execution of the method.
