The method involves subjecting digital images in the context of image compression and/or image-decompression of intrachannel-component transformation and/or retransformation or inverse transformation, and producing transformation-coefficients. The digital images are transmitted and/or stored after the compression and if necessary before the decompression. The coefficients and/or decoding stream over the coefficients are changed to a preset brightness and/or color adjustment of the digital images. The images are compressed on the basis of JPEGor JPEG2000. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a digital data transferring or storing medium comprising program-elements of a computer program for executing the electronic method (2) a computer system for adjusting brightness and/or color of a digital image.
