The method involves determining waypoint data using a navigation system (4) provided at a vehicle for a route path. Vehicle-specific data is determined over an interface unit (22) of the vehicle. The waypoint and the vehicle-specific data are transmitted to a central processing database. A new route path is determined by comparison of the waypoint data with a map system stored in a central map system database. The new path is added with route-away-specific data and the vehicle-specific data, and provided to the map system. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a navigation system for a vehicle comprising a position determination unit (2) a data processing system for making a new route path for a map system (3) a digital storage medium with electronically readable control signals that cooperate with a programmable computer or a digital signal processor to implement a method for making a new route path for a map system (4) a computer program with program code unit for the execution of a method for making a new route path for a map system.
