The method involves arranging a heating unit (14) in a distance to a damaged area of a vehicle body paint (10). The body paint in the damaged area is warmed for an adjustable time at an adjustable temperature between seventy five degree to eighty five degree by using a heating unit. The time and/or the temperature is adjusted in dependent of the distance of the heating unit, which comprises of an infra red radiation source (16) and/or a near infra red-radiation source. An independent claim is also included for a device for partial regeneration of a scratch paint on a body of a motor vehicle reparable by application of energy.
