Closing unit for injection molding machines has a support plate (9B) for the mobile mold clamping plate which is operated by a toggle lever system. The plate has cavities (25) behind the points where the lever mountings (21) are attached to the front (9A) of the plate. These deform uniformly when force is applied to it. An independent claim is included for the support plate.
