The method involves transferring a transmission cylinder and a form cylinder of a printing unit into a printing position. Control parameters of a drive control of a direct drive are adjusted in such a manner that a constant and/or quasi constant drive moment in the form cylinder is driven over the direct drive. Target values and actual values of the drive control of the direct drive and/or control deviations between the actual and target values of the drive control are determined, where control deviations correspond to geometry error of the printing unit.
