The assembly has a force generator or restorer (50) e.g. electric motor, coupled to a manual control unit (10) of a vehicle e.g. car, for communicating a force to the control unit. A locking mechanism (110) generates a mechanical and partial locking of the control unit, when the mechanism is activated, where the control unit controls a direction of the vehicle. The assembly is arranged such that the locking mechanism, force generator and control unit are sequentially coupled in series.
