Tracing additive for incorporating in an animal food, comprises at least three aromatic recognition molecules of back note chemically stable in the food. Independent claims are included for: (1) an animal food containing the tracing additive; (2) a process of animal food tracing comprising incorporating the additive into the food, extracting the aromatic molecules of the additive from the food, after a limited period of food storage, and detecting and quantifying the aromatic recognition molecule by chromatography, by selecting the characteristic peaks of the molecules; and (3) use of an aroma as a tracing product in the animal food.
