PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetooptical modulator with an optical isolator built therein permitting wideband operation and fast modulation.;SOLUTION: The magnetooptical modulator with the optical isolator built therein comprises an optical isolator part for polarizing incident light from a light source while shading the light returning to the light source from the outgoing side, a magnetooptical modulator part for receiving the light made to exit from the optical isolator part, performing desired intensity modulation to the light to output it outside as exit light, and an impedance adjuster 128 for adjusting an electrical impedance in the magnetooptical modulator part in order to effectively introduce a high-frequency signal for modulating the light to the magnetooptical modulator part, and is arranged so that the optical isolator and the magnetooptical madulator part are housed in a single package. The optical isolator part polarizes the incident light Pin from the light source and makes the light exit to an analyzer serving also as a polarizer 6, while shading the transmission of the light in the reverse direction.
