PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a foreign matter detecting tool capable of detecting a foreign matter on an imaging optical path without incorporating a dedicated light source in a camera body, in a lens replacing type digital camera. PSOLUTION: An LED 21 is provided in a body cap 2 attached to the camera body to be positioned in an optical axis 20 when attached to the camera body, and a foreign matter detecting image is picked up using the LED 21 as a light source. A shadow generated by the foreign matter is detected based on the picked-up foreign matter detecting image, and a position of the foreign matter is calculated based on the position of the shadow to correct an image defect caused by the foreign matter in the picked-up image.
