PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve transmission characteristics of a wavelength multiplexing signal light by suppressing intermodulation between the channels.;SOLUTION: The wavelength multiplexing signal light from an optical fiber 1 having orthogonal polarization between adjacent channels is branched at each channel at an AWG 3 connected to a second port (2) of an optical circulator 2, and these branched signal lights λ1 to λn are guided to a delay adding optical waveguide 4 having different optical path lengths. A Faraday mirror 5 makes the polarization of the delayed branched signal lights orthogonal, then reflects the lights, and again guides the lights to the waveguide 4. These reflected lights are multiplexed at the AWG 3, and output as the wavelength multiplexing signal lights maintained in orthogonal polarization between the adjacent channels to a third port (3) of the circulator 2.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2002,JPO
