PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To correctly decode data encoded by a variable length encoding method with an enhanced compression efficiency.;SOLUTION: The variable length encoding method encodes each of prescribed unit data while referencing a parameter table and includes: an initializing step of setting an initial value to an acquired parameter table; a parameter table information encoding step of encoding information with respect to the initialized parameter table; a parameter acquisition step of acquiring encoding parameter data used for encoding each of sub data configuring the data of a prescribed unit from the parameter table; a sub data encoding step of applying variable length encoding to the sub data by referencing the acquired encoding parameter; and an information encoding data arrangement step of arranging the encoded information to a position at which the information is earlier acquired than the encoded data of the prescribed unit and outputting the information.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
