This invention relates to a hardfacing alloy for application to a metal surface which hardfacing alloy is useful in high thermal and high mechanical stress applications, said hardfacing alloy comprising of at least 7 weight percent chromium and up to 20 weight percent chromium, at least 0.02 weight percent nitrogen and up to 0.3 weight percent nitrogen, metal sensitization inhibitor, and over 50 weight percent iron, said hardfacing alloy containing less than 10% ferrite, said metal sensitization inhibitor including a metal selected from the group consisting of at least 0.3% niobium and up to 2.5 weight percent niobium and at least 0.05% vanadium and up to 0.5 weight percent vanadium.
