The invention relates to the strainFERM BP-10059 (FERM P-19443), which can be applied as Probiotic and which can form colonies and proliferate in centres of infection, eliminating pathogenic bacteria, and to the prophylactic and therapeutic agent, which contains the mentioned strain. The mentioned strain has such main properties:(1) can be cultivated in the presence of 1-4 amino acids as carbon source, essential for growth; (2)when cultural medium, stimulating growth, is inoculated with this strain andin identical quantity and subjected to anaerobic mixed cultivation at 37 °, the final quantity of lactobacillus is 50 % or more from the quantity of coli forms;(3) after cultivation in corresponding cultural medium the final pH value is 4.0 or lower, and the highest acidity of 1.5 % or more;(4) this strain is resistant to 5 % of salts of bile acids;(5) this strain produces antibiotic.
