A controlled vocabulary abstracthyperlink is a variety of hyperlink that is directedto a redirection facility when selected. Thehyperlink redirection facility is a redirectionfacility for directing the controlled vocabularyabstract hyperlink in a modified format to aservice provider. The controlled vocabularyabstract hyperlink may be embellished andencapsulated in a "controlled vocabulary abstracthyperlink". The hyperlink redirection facilitymakes a determination of which service providerto use to service the request associated withthe controlled vocabulary abstract hyperlinkby examining user preferences, if any. Thecontrolled vocabulary abstract hyperlink is thenpassed onto a service provider, which translatesthe request into an appropriate format for aselected service provider that has been identifiedby the hyperlink redirection facility. The serviceprovider processes the request and returns resultsto the user.
