A raw material for silicon carbide firing that is suitable for production of a porous sintered body of silicon carbide, having a powdery iron compound uniformly dispersed therein. There is provided a process for producing a raw material for silicon carbide firing, characterized by including the step of subjecting at least a powdery silicon carbide and a powdery iron compound to wet mixing or wet pulverization mixing.
