It is possible by adding sulphur-containing anionogenic polymers to compositions for hair treatment to improve distinctly the imparting of structure, hold and volume to the hair. The idea of the present invention is based on the observation that sulphur-containing anionogenic unbranched polymers form in the presence of atmospheric oxygen inter- and intramolecular sulphur bridges in a very controlled manner to form a network. If this process of network formation of sulphur-containing anionogenic polymers takes place in the hair itself, the hair is surprisingly thus comparatively very greatly strengthened by the bunching together in its structure taking place in this way. Since this crosslinking process can be controlled very well through the chemical structure of the sulphur-containing anionogenic polymer used in each case, it is thus possible for the hair initially to be brought into the appropriate shape before the crosslinking process occurs through an oxidation mediated by the presence of atmospheric oxygen, and thus stabilization. The highly anionogenic character of the polymers according to the invention makes it possible for disulphide bridge linkages with the hair to be substantially suppressed because the hair sufficiently repels, through its negative charge, the applied polymer.
