PURPOSE: A method for preparing hydrophobic carbon nanoparticles having hydrophobic groups on the surface thereof is provided to exhibit high dispersion stability especially at high temperature.;CONSTITUTION: A method for preparing hydrophobic carbon nanoparticles comprises the following steps. Carbon nanoparticles having hydrophilic carboxylic acid groups on the surface thereof react to alcohol in the presence of acid catalyst for esterification. The hydrophilic carboxylic acid groups are changed into lipophilic groups so the dispersibility is improved. The alcohol is C9-C14 alcohol. The alcohol is dodecanol or C12/C14 mixed alcohol. The alcohol is added in excessive quantity compared to the hydrophilic carbon nanoparticles. The acid catalyst is sulfuric acid.;COPYRIGHT KIPO 2010
