A method for connecting steel pipes using a portable type automatic TIG(tungsten inert gas) welding apparatus is provided to enable a user to perform a pipe construction even in a small space even through the user does not use a single body type automatic welding apparatus. A method for connecting steel pipes using a portable type automatic TIG(tungsten inert gas) welding apparatus(PW) comprises the following units. Both pipes are shaped using both shapers of a steel pipe shaping/coupling device. The both steel pipes are contacted with each other. The steel pipe shaping/coupling device is separated from the steel pipe and an automatic welding apparatus is mounted to one steel pipe.
