The method involves evaluating a driver-sided predetermined braking deceleration changes together with the longitudinal acceleration changes detected by a longitudinal acceleration sensor, for determining a plausibility variable for the longitudinal acceleration sensor. A plausibility test is implemented for the formation of the plausibility variable. It is checked whether the detected longitudinal acceleration changes corresponds to expected longitudinal acceleration changes.
