Demand-driven fuel system operating method for e.g. diesel internal combustion engine, in vehicle, involves computing correction factor by comparison of actual control and reference control during control operation of fuel pump
The method involves reducing a fuel flow rate of a fuel pump (16) in a calibration phase such that a metering device (18) for observing a pressure of a high pressure region (13) increases the fuel flow rate. An applicable threshold is fixed for a degree of opening of the metering device, and an actual control of the metering device is compared with a reference control when the threshold is obtained. A correction factor is computed by the comparison during control operation of the pump.
