Preparing a linear diglycerin comprises: vaporizing glycerin under reduced pressure in a side zone (1) of a device at 100-290[deg] C; introducing the obtained glycerin vapor in a reaction zone (3) with an acid catalyst; condensing or partially condensing the vapor from the reaction zone in a condensation zone (4); introducing the condensed vapor (as a film or in fine droplet form) in a counter-current to the glycerin vapor and contacting with the catalyst; and removing the liquid product mixture from the reaction zone and recycling into the side zone. Preparing a linear diglycerin comprises: vaporizing glycerin at 100-290[deg] C, under reduced pressure in a side zone (1) of a device; introducing the obtained glycerin vapor in a reaction zone (3) with an acid catalyst; condensing or partially condensing the vapor from the reaction zone in a condensation zone (4), where water is continuously removed from the condensation zone; introducing the condensed vapor (as a film or in fine droplet form) in a counter-current to the glycerin vapor and contacting with the catalyst; and removing the liquid product mixture from the reaction zone and recycling into the side zone.
