The method involves determining a sampling frequency, and another sampling frequency which is different from the former sampling frequency. Time-continuous sinusoidal signals are sampled with the former sampling frequency to obtain a data set with sampling values. The signals are sampled with the latter sampling frequency to obtain another data set with sampling values. An approximation frequency is determined for a signal frequency depending on evaluation of Fourier spectrums of the sampling values of the former data set and Fourier spectrums of the sampling values of the latter data set. An independent claim is also included for a device for asynchronous sampling of a time-continuous sinusoidal signal with a signal frequency, comprising a signal source.
