The diagnostic method involves measuring the pressure values of a charge pressure sensor (8) and a manifold pressure sensor (10). The charge pressure sensor is arranged in a pressure pipe (7) upstream to a throttle valve (6) and the manifold pressure sensor is arranged in an intake manifold (9) downstream to the throttle valve. A definite positive load application is carried out in idle operation and the pressure values are compared with the pressure value of an ambient pressure sensor of a pressure diagnostic threshold.
