The device has a push rod (10) for operating a locking mechanism that is fixed to a tiltable hand brake lever (1). The push rod is guided along a handle of the hand brake lever and is supported at the handle. The handle is designed as a rod-shaped section, and base structure of the handle is formed by a longitudinal bar (14) to which a form closure unit (15) is attached for assembling the push rod along transverse direction of the longitudinal bar. The hand brake lever is made of a cast material e.g. steel, aluminum alloy or plastic.
