The machine tool (9) for machining connecting rods (10) useful in an internal combustion engine of a motor vehicle, comprises a chamfering device (66) having a fiber laser (67) and a laser nozzle for mounting a notch (19) in the connecting rod, so that the connecting rod is breakable in the area of the notch, a device for guiding the laser nozzle and/or the connecting rod relative to the laser nozzle, a controller for controlling the guiding device in such a way that the guiding device guides the laser nozzle only uniquely over a notch region for mounting the notch, and a breaker. The machine tool (9) for machining connecting rods (10) useful in an internal combustion engine of a motor vehicle, comprises a chamfering device (66) having a fiber laser (67) and a laser nozzle for mounting a notch (19) in the connecting rod, so that the connecting rod is breakable in the area of the notch, a device for guiding the laser nozzle and/or the connecting rod relative to the laser nozzle, a controller for controlling the guiding device in such a way that the guiding device guides the laser nozzle only uniquely over a notch region for mounting the notch, a breaker for breaking the connecting rods in the area of the notch, a drilling device and/or a milling device for drilling and/or milling the connecting rods, and a conveyor for conveying the connecting rods in and/or out of the working area of the chamfering device. A laser beam exits from the laser nozzle for notching the connecting rod. The laser nozzle forms a component of a laser nozzle arrangement with two laser nozzles for simultaneously mounting the two notches. The controller is arranged to an adjustment of a movement speed of the guiding device during mounting the notch in dependence of an adjustable actual notch depth and/or a performance of the fiber laser, has a regulator for adjusting the movement speed of the guiding device, and adjusts the movement speed of 50 watt at 40-70 mm per seconds with the performance of the fiber laser. An output-side working capacity of the fiber laser is 10-200 watt. The fiber laser has a working capacity of 40-100 watt and a pulse frequency of 40-60 kHz. An independent claim is included for a method for machining connecting rods with a chamfering device having a laser for mounting a notch in the connecting rod.
