The method involves detecting vehicles (51-54) i.e. car, in a preset environment around a crossing (21). A prediction for occupancy of a preset area (31) behind the crossing on a road (11) is determined in a preset direction relative to the crossing from positions of the detected vehicles. Behavior reference is deduced from the prediction for a driver of the vehicles finding a driving direction ahead of the crossing and running in the preset area. The reference is signalized to the driver by a set of lights (41, 42), and is converted into acoustical or optical signal for the driver. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a computer program product comprising instructions for performing a method for controlling traffic flow at a crossing of a road or at a junction of another road in the former road (2) a device for controlling traffic flow at a crossing of a road or at a junction of another road in the former road.
