The method involves providing a fixed predetermined control signal (100) as an actual control signal to a device i.e. magnetic valve injector. An actual controlled performance generated from a desired actual control signal is detected. A modified control signal is provided as the actual control signal to the device, and the actual controlled performance is detected. A modulated control signal is determined based on the actual control signal when the actual controlled performance satisfies an end condition. The modulated control signal is loaded with a safety clearance. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a device for determining an enhanced control signal for an injector of an engine (2) a computer program with a program code medium for determining an enhanced control signal for an injector of an engine (3) a computer program product with a program code medium for determining an enhanced control signal for an injector of an engine.
