The method involves transmitting data from a base station (6) of a digital cellular mobile network according to a code multiplex process. A mobile terminal (7) is arranged for transmission of information relative to the terminal through the base station. The transmitted information is received by the base station such that characteristic information relative to the network are read from a reference data base (27). The terminal is located by the base station based on the information received from the terminal and information read from the data base. An independent claim is also included for a virtual base station for operating in a digital cellular mobile network.
