The method involves scanning a signal characterizing the rail pressure. The time-discrete signal is transformed into the frequency chamber. The characteristic extraction is carried out from the frequency spectrum, and a characteristic vector is detected. One of the characteristic vectors is compared with the corresponding stored characteristic vector. Independent claims are included for the following: (1) a computer program for executing the method; and (2) a computer program product with a program code for executing the method.
