The arrangement has a synchronous motor (1) with an electronic control unit, which executes a safety measure to transfer the motor in a secure operating condition during failure of the motor. A self-sufficient energy supply for a control section (3) of the unit is switchable after detection of the failure of the energy supply. A decoupling circuit (5) is provided between a power section (2) and the control section and includes a support capacitor (7). Capacitance of the capacitor is measured, such that the control section is active for a preset period of time after the failure detection. An independent claim is also included for a method for controlling an electrical drive.
