The device (26) has a weighing cell (28) for detecting a total weight of coffee powder (24) filled in a coffee machine (10) and brewing water (18). A control unit (30) processes an output signal of the weighing cell for determining the necessary total weight of the brewing water and the coffee powder based on the detected brewing water weight or coffee powder weight depending on preset adjustments of the control unit. The control unit monitors the reaching of the pre-defined total weight, and a display device (32) displays the monitoring result, where the display device comprises LEDs.
